University of Nottingham Portland Building

The Project
In 2015, the University of Nottingham opened The Studio – a transformation of the Student Union in the 1950’s Portland Building. The new social, learning and meeting area includes high tech lecture theatres and a dynamic hub to hold more than 150 students which will be able to facilitate the various activities associated with society membership within the Union.
Godfrey Syrett have worked previously with the University on various projects, and were pleased to be offered the chance to work on this exciting scheme.

Our Solution

Our Designer and Sales Manager worked alongside University of Nottingham and CMPG Architects to create a flexible interior design which would accommodate the needs of the students. By incorporating movable walls and a retractable stage, the space became flexible and responsive to changing student requirements. The furniture choices were big, bold and playful; helping to completely transform this previously traditional space. Bright colours combined with soft furnishings and modern designs, the revitalised Student Union is inclusive, sociable and a perfect base for students.
