Liverpool John Moores University is a public research university home to over 25,000 students.
The Byrom Street Social Zone is a two storey new build, housing collaborative and social areas, computer zones and a catering space.
The project required the integration of self-directed learning spaces to promote knowledge transfer between the students.
We worked with LJMU and their construction partner Hightown Group to develop a space which would welcome both group working and self-directed learning.
The layout comprised a variety of semi-private booths for concentrated or group work, individual study desks and breakout spaces where students can socialise. The dining area also has a number of high and low tables which encourage student interaction.
